What's The Beanstalk Project all about?
There's a lot we'd love tell you about what we do. With over 10 years of youth speaking, and more than 1000 presentations (including 6 amazing "un-conferences" in 4 cities across Canada), there are certainly lots of stories to share. But - you're probably busy, so let's stick to the basics to get you started. If you'd rather, just watch the videos and you'll get the idea.
Meet the team!
Joel Hilchey is the founder and director of The Beanstalk Project. He teaches at McMaster University, and he speaks and writes about leadership, success, and creating a better world. You can learn more about Joel at www.joelhilchey.com.
Brandon Love is a facilitator and creative consultant for The Beanstalk Project. He's also a magician, speaker, and coach, and he helps people learn to achieve the impossible. Check out www.brandonlovemagic.com for more about him.
Together, Joel and Brandon wrote a book about becoming fearlessly creative, and they think you should read it. They also made an app to boost creativity. It's free. They are natural teachers, fans of corny jokes, and really nice guys.
Our third, and newest facilitator, Andrew Giordano, is a professionally trained circus artist who has performed for audiences around the world. He is the founder of the Youth Circus Project, used performance to conquer an anxiety disorder, and is also a really nice guy!
A fourth person you should know about is Katharine Snider-McNair - she's the coordinator for The Beanstalk Project workshops (and therefore, probably the person you'll hear from by email). Katharine cares about helping youth connect with positive mentors. Occasionally, she laughs at Joel and Brandon's jokes.

The Beanstalk Project Philosophy
The problem with most leadership development programs is that they only work for about 20% of students.
Too many students can't see the application for the skills they're learning, and without an application, they just don't retain it. Unfortunately, too much of school is focused on "getting to the next thing" or being useful at some distant point in time - "in the real world" - as if students' present lives aren't real! Sure - some students will be engaged no matter what, but the feelings of irrelevance are especially high amongst the other 80% - the ones who often need it most!
We've run hundreds of programs, and we've seen even the most disengaged student turn into a star contributor. How?
The secret is in helping people buy in. By using project-based learning, the skill-development is immediately valuable. By connecting ideas with stuff the students care about, they connect with intrinsic motivation. By making the workshops interactive and relevant, students can't help but be engaged.
